VIDEO: Renowned Illawara Grammar School Selects Xirrus for Future Campus-wide Wi-Fi

Xirrus®, the Wi-Fi "Power Play" that delivers the most coverage, bandwidth, and user density in the industry, announced today their deployment of Xirrus high performance 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays at the Illawara Grammar School located on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Opened in 1959, this renowned Anglican School consists of 180 staff supporting nearly 1,150 students from Preparatory to Year 12. Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays were selected because it was the only architecture capable of providing the necessary bandwidth and user capacity required to support their digital learning initiatives well into the future.

Neil Cross, ICT Manager at Illawara Grammar School explained their search for a high performance Wi-Fi solution, “We needed a unique type of set-up to be able to accommodate all our classrooms. We needed to find a wireless solution that was going to afford a whole gamete of different devices. When we looked at what the capacity, or what the saturation would be, we realized that there are not a lot of WiFi solutions out there. We looked at several vendors, but those would have required hundreds of APs.”

Describing his decision to choose Xirrus, Neil said,” When we heard about Xirrus it seemed they’re offering something outside the box and it seemed to be what we were looking for. It’s going to be a solution that we can manage and tailor to our needs. Xirrus is very versatile… we can manage throughput, we can manage the capacity, and we can upgrade as well.”
