St Andrews Anglican College deploys class-leading Xirrus Wi-Fi

QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA – Wednesday 1st of July 2009, inTechnology Distribution announces the successful deployment of Xirrus high performance Wi-Fi at St Andrews Anglican College located in Queensland, Australia.

St Andrew’s Anglican College is a co-educational College catering for 920 students from Prep to Year 12, growing to a maximum of around 1200 in future years. The Xirrus Wi-Fi deployment places St Andrews at the forefront of Wi-Fi with class-leading performance that will support all digital learning initiatives well into the future.

“St Andrew’s has always considered technology an important part of modern day learning. Integrating technology into the classroom is constantly reviewed with an IT committee meeting regularly to ensure that technology is utilized throughout the curriculum. Students are encouraged to become global learners through all resources available“, says Reverend Chris Ivey, Principal at St Andrews.

When asked why St Andrews had chosen Xirrus Wi-Fi, Rory Chapman the IT Manger responded, “After careful assessment of a number of different brands and the dealers associated with them we decided on Xirrus. There were a number of factors contributing to this decision. We loved the fact that Xirrus actually came to our college and did a site survey with the exact equipment we were looking to purchase therefore guaranteeing that we were going to get the coverage and performance that we wanted. We also found their technical and sales staff to be friendly, honest and very helpful. For us the fact that we were able to get the client density we required without having large amounts of access points and thereby saving ourselves money on cabling and additional switches, was key in the decision making process.”

When asked if he would recommend Xirrus, Rory went on to say, “I would and do recommend Xirrus. In my opinion the product and the team behind it are ideally suited for the education environment. We have already started planning further deployments of Xirrus wireless in our new primary building and our new multipurpose facility, both of which are being built in the second half of 2009.”

Craig Clegg, Product Manager for Xirrus at inTechnology Distribution said, “The Xirrus Wi-Fi deployment at St Andrew’s has been extremely successful. I personally do not like to box drop and I know that the team at inTechnology takes pride in ensuring that technologies such as Xirrus Wi-Fi genuinely suit the customer’s needs. The Wi-Fi client densities found in education today have surpassed that of any enterprise environment and Xirrus is normally the best product for schools to implement to avoid costly cabling and troublesome radio channel configuration exercises. I also pay respect to Xirrus’s architects because they are the only Wi-Fi vendor that has constructed their Wi-Fi hardware using a truly modular design. This ensures that Xirrus customers will leverage their investments well into the future through simple, cost effective upgrades.”

Clegg concluded that, “Depending on the model, the Xirrus Wi-Fi Array incorporates from 4 all the way to 24 access points and a Wi-Fi controller into a single device that can consistently deliver solid wireless performance under load, with the latest encryption enabled. Xirrus is the next generation in wireless and this is set to continue because they only focus on Wi-Fi not having other product technologies to sap R&D time. “
